Johanna Sigurdardottir, Prime Minister of Iceland has confirmed that she will stand as a candidate to become the next chairman of the Social Democrats, mbl.is reports. Party members will vote for a new leader at their national convention held 27-29 March.
To date Johanna has said she does not want to be party leader, preferring to concentrate solely on being Prime Minister if her party does sufficiently well enough in the upcoming elections.
The MP said in a statement that she changed her mind due to the encouragement she has received from colleagues. Opinion within the Social Democrats remains strongly in favour of Sigurdardottir becoming leader.
Socialists have assumed the task of leading a left wing coalition immediately following the most serious crisis the country’s financial system has ever faced. The task at hand is therefore only just beginning, Sigurdardottir said.
Despite her initial reluctance to take on the job, Sigurdardottir said that her nomination also comes with a total commitment to the tasks that lie ahead for the party leader and the Prime Minister.

I didn’t say she is doing good or bad. I just said that blaming her for unemployment numbers is not wise. You should be aware of the fact that those who were laid off in February got their “resignation” letters in November last year. And it’s not possible to ANYONE to fix this problem by the end of March.

To be completely honest, with what I have experienced with American schools, I wouldn’t be surpised if the average IQ has gone down. Even the vocabulary of the average person here has gone down. Needless to say, teachers are underpaid, and the school system here needs a lot of work. It’s good to see you know where Delaware is, despite there being a good amount of people in the US who do not know where Delaware is, much less that it is a state.

As to Asians all looking similar, that is correct, to some extent. Europeans exhibit significantly more differences in the most noticeable aspects of appearance, but there are considerable differences among people from different countries, and even from within a single country. You make the point that Europeans often have a hard time distinguishing between them, due to cultural differences. Indeed, there are significant differences between [the numerous] Asian cultures and western ones. Your point only serves to reinforce the stereotypes often presented.

Unfortunately, it seems that there is a great amount of disagreement among economic recovery.
The source of the crisis is often debated, and is one of the things that must be pinpointed before significant government intervention can occur although problems are also targeted. Would you fix a leaking bottle of water by draining all of the water out of it? Or by patching up the hole? Is there too much water or should the hole be removed?,
Some suggest that economic cycles are inevitable, and are the source of the current problems, while others suggest that structural problems are a source of problems. Still others believe that fear is a problem, and is causing a drop in economic activity. This current crisis in my view is caused by a number of issues including the above.
As to currency restrictions – given the large amount of foreign money in Iceland, it is probably a good thing that they are there. Outflows would undermine any stability in the króna, and may cause problems with inflation (again). Could they have been done differently to help the investors? Probably, but for now we all will have to stay with the current system.
When the world economy (hopefully) begins to recover, the currency restrictions should be able to be lifted gradually.
Thats exactly my point as of the situation right now the currency restrictions is the only choice, but this doesnt mean is a good thing, and Iceland will not endure for so long with this currency restrictions, there is no way that Iceland will survive one or two more years with this rstrictions, and if the worlds recovery will take that 2 or three years, Iceland WILL NOT last that long.

So 19-28%. That’s significant. There’s also a real possiblity that they’re disproportionally concentrated in the central districts of the city. Certainly that was my impression when I visited Auckland (which has a similar level of SE Asians) last year.
