Straumur collapse keeps IMF staff in Iceland longer

hallgrmskirkja_2The stay of the International Monetary Fund delegation in Iceland was due to end today, but has now been extended to Friday. Mark Flanagan, who leads the delegation, will meet with media representatives on Friday, mbl.is reports.

The main reason for the extension in the IMF stay is apparently yesterday’s nationalisation of Straumur Burdaras Bank. According to Kristjan Kristjansson from the Prime Minister’s office, the Straumur issue took up a large part of the delegation’s time over the weekend. In addition to this, the delegation’s official work also proved more complicated and time consuming than had originally been allowed for.

    @ Asian Strength

You are aware of that the “ICELAND NEIGHBOURS” also suffers from the GLOBAL!!! crisis, right?

And you are aware of, that the Scandinavian countries actually have supported Iceland with economic support already, rigt?

You should be aware of, that the situation here in Iceland is caused only by Icelanders themselves, right?

I think you should be aware that the only scandinavian country that has helped Iceland is Norway, the others, only prolonged ths swap aragements that were allready in prosses when the collapsed happened, and since the ISK is no longer a treadable currency, Iceland can not make effective the swap anymore, and also be aware that a crisis is very different than the TOTAL collapse of the financial system.

Lets not forget the (almost independant republic) of the Faroes
