Consumer confidence in Iceland showed a slight increase in February, despite unemployment figures rising steadily and inflation remaining rampant.
The data from the Gallup polling company put consumer confidence at 24.3 – up from the all-time low of 19.5 recorded in January. The figures have been compiled in Iceland since March 2001.
The reason for the upswing in confidence is not immediately clear; but the end of violent protests, the installation of a new government and the confirmation of elections at the end of April may be conspiring to make Icelanders feel the future is brighter than it felt a month ago.
