The significant protests that began at lunchtime yesterday are still going on outside the Althingi parliament in Reykjavik, despite it now being past midnight.
As the night drew in, protesters lit a bonfire outside Parliament House and vowed to continue their vigil. The current plan is to keep the protest going at least until today’s parliamentary session begins at 13.30, MBL.is reports.
The weather tonight in Reykjavik is still and dry, although the temperature is at, or just below, freezing.
The protesters are angry that the current government continues to reject their calls for new elections. Many police are said to still be guarding the building, which protesters have been periodically pelting with toilet rolls and shoes, among other things.

After such a long period of peaceful action I think it is time for some first portion of violence. Eggs and toiletpaper are of course the soft stuff that make the pigs inside of the parliament laugh. When this don’t seem to work it is time for proportioned violence. If gas is being spread by the black dressed slaves of the government why not react with molotov cocktails, let’s show them we take the protest seriously. If the pigs think they can be safe in their parliament protected by their black dressed slaves why not get them when they are outside, after what they have done they don’t have the right to live in peace ever after. Escalation of protest must follow a logic and timely progression. Violence to property is next step, but violence to people should be avoided to greatest possible extent. If you install a new government with violionce, you cannot then be surprised when that government uses violence against the people that put them there.
Unfortunately change is slow, but it must be for it to last. Just look at some of the countries that have had 6-8 different governments in the last 2 years. They all go out fighting and hurting people.
That being said, I sure wish the change would hurry up.

I suppose that depends on whether the Icelandic exporters being stiffed at that rate are sufficient to cover the retail and commercial loan payments. They may not be, in which case you’d be correct.
bromley, I would be shocked, if exporters money would suffice for that now, if it did not suffice when banks were alive (e.g. in 2006, when problems first started to show and banks were essentially forced to go abroad for cash).

During the period from December 4 through December 31, the Bank sold 12.6 million euros and received 1.5 million euros, yielding a net sale of 11.1 million euros. The bulk of this amount, some 10.8 million euros, derives from interest on Treasury notes owned by non-residents, which may be exchanged for foreign currency. Therefore, the Central Bank actually conducted a negligible amount of foreign exchange trading during this period of time.

Most foreign exchange done was actually to send them their interest payments.
What the last foreign exchange regulations did was to deny those bond holders taking their main money back. They could just take out their intrest payments.

How ignorant can you be, what they are doing with the krona is simply not possible, the rate that they are holding up is simply because the central bank is puting money into it, is plain and simple. even if they tell you that they are not doing, if they tell you that elephans fly would you belibe it? NO because its not possible, or would you? now I have my doubts… anyways just in the month of December the sentralbank injected half a BILLION dollars to the Icelandic krona just to keep it at the 160-170 fake rate that we have, if they didnt the krona would be 200 now, so from 3 billon it went down to 2.5 Billion, now at the end of this mont they have to pay the interest if the bonds, and they will have to inject another Half a BILLION or more again so it wont jump to 200 or more, you see, use your brain, for how long can they keep it, if at the end of this mond ther will be ONLY 2 billion inthe national reserves, do the math if you cant use a calculator, this fake krona offcourse is good for us now, but they can only keep it for 2 or 3 more months before we run out of money, so national bancrupcy, take the money from the pension funds and thats all, what happen in sept.-Oct. is nothing but nothing compare to what will come in about 2 or 3 months, so start saveing your money or get ready to eat onli rice very often.
