Bjork Gudmundsdottir, the famous Icelandic singer hosted a work group meeting Sunday in which participants discussed how innovation and diversity can be nurtured in Icelandic business. In addition to yesterday’s meeting, organisers will also hold seminars and meetings all over Iceland in the future.
As well as Bjork, the meeting was also hosted by two universities and several innovation companies.
“In the end it’s really a question of how to keep people here. A question of keeping highly educated people here in Iceland and to look at Iceland more as a whole,” said Oddny Eir Aevarsdottir, one of the meeting’s organisers. She added how satisfying it was to see how many people from very different walks of life turned out and gave their ideas – people that otherwise would never have met. “There was a great deal of cooperation and humility in the air,” Aevarsdottir said.
Klak manager, Eythor Ivar Jonsson said that innovation happens when people of different backgrounds come together. He believes the project’s goal is to, “See what we can do with what we have got”.
At the end of the meeting, Bjork’s new song was premiered to coincide with the release of the new-look www.natturan.is, the Icelandic website giving practical advice on environmental issues. The website has an English section.
