Icelanders go to Open Days

eu-flagRepresentatives from Icelandic local governments will be present at a European Union conference on regions and cities, MBL.is reports. This will be the first time that Iceland is formally represented at such a conference.

The main events surrounding the EU Regions and Cities Open Days will take place in Brussels from 6 to 9 October.

The local government unions of West Iceland, the West Fjords and North Iceland will be among those contributing to the Open Days, which are now being held for the sixth time.

Open Days organisers predict that up to 5,000 local government representatives from all over Europe will come together for the seminars, debates and important networking, among other things. Government-funded business development, environmental issues and regional development will be on the agenda at this year’s Open Days, according to the Union of Icelandic Local Governments Brussels office.

Part of the Icelanders’ work at Open Days will be to help organise two seminars in cooperation with representatives of the northern countries of Finland, Sweden, Norway, Scotland and Greenland, which will cover important issues for the North from many points-of-view.

Another part of the Icelanders’ work will be to man their stand in the Investors Café – a place where they will introduce Iceland to interesting business projects and foreign investment.
