Flights from London Gatwick to Iceland starting spring 2009

Iceland ExpressIceland Express, a low cost airline which operates flights to Iceland from 14 European cities, has announced a change to its winter schedule.

The new timetable includes the introduction of a new service linking Reykjavik with London Gatwick in spring 2009. The service was originally scheduled to start this September, but the airline says the delay is in customers’ best interest.

“Iceland Express is remaining cautious in the current uncertain economic climate, while continuing to deliver the best possible service at the best possible price. Iceland Express is a budget airline and we want to ensure it stays that way,” says Birna Gudmundsdottir, Iceland Express Marketing Manager.

“We have decided to move the launch of this exciting new service to the spring as it is the peak travel season for Iceland. While the number of bookings has never been higher for Iceland Express, we do not want the current increase in fuel costs to impact on the ticket prices for our customers,” Gudmundsdottir continues.

In addition to this, the Icelandic budget airline also recently announced the introduction of two new Boeing 737-700s from September. The aircraft are more environmentally-friendly and will result in up to a 40 percent reduction in fuel costs for Iceland Express.

Iceland Express started offering cheap flights to Iceland in 2003 from London and Copenhagen. Since that time the airline has grown to cover 14 cities and has played a major role in Iceland’s booming tourist industry.

Iceland Express connects the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik with 14 airports in Europe: Copenhagen, London, Alicante, Basel, Berlin, Billund, Eindhoven, Frankfurt Hahn, Friedrichshafen, Gothenburg, Paris, Stockholm, Barcelona and Warsaw.
