Traffic on Iceland’s roads in July was 3,7 percent less than in July 2007 when average figures are drawn together from 14 traffic monitoring stations across the country, according to Morgunbladid Online.
In July 2007, by contrast, traffic jumped 7.48 percent from the same month in 2006.
According to the National Roads Administration, this is the fourth month in a row where traffic is less than the same month in 2007; but in the long term traffic has increased steadily. July’s traffic decrease is less than in June, when 5.56 percent fewer cars were registered than June 2007.
The economic slowdown and high oil prices are the most likely causes for the traffic reductions; but the fine summer weather could have helped as well.
