Paul Ramses is a Kenyan refugee. He feared for his life in his homeland and came to Europe hoping for a safe haven.
After unsuccessfully running in Nairobi city council elections in December, Ramses has been beaten and persecuted by his political opponents.
With his pregnant wife, Ramses fled for Iceland in January and was reportedly told by the immigration authorities that he was eligible to apply for political asylum in the country.
However, last week he was arrested and prepared for deportation, as his application had apparently been rejected.
Under European rules Iceland deported Ramses to Italy, as that was the EU country that granted his original visa. Iceland participates in many EU institutions and conventions due to its membership of the EEA (the 27 EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway).
In sending Paul Ramses to Italy, Iceland has followed standard procedure. But each country is also allowed to grant asylum to applicants in special circumstances, based on the applicant’s links to the country.
Ramses’ supporters believe the fact that his son was born in Iceland and still lives in the country with his mother, counts as a special circumstance. They also point to the fact that Ramses came to Iceland on account of having worked on projects in Kenya with an Icelandic charity and the Foreign Ministry. Ramses lived in Iceland for a while in 2005 and has many friends in the country.
Human rights campaigners in Iceland hope that Italian authorities will grant Ramses asylum and allow him to remain in Europe; not just because of the risk he faces in Kenya, but also because his wife and one-month-old son are still in Iceland.
“I find the treatment of Paul Ramses and his family disgusting,” said Dane Magnusson, head of Iceland’s Anti-Racism Association. “I don’t understand how the people behind the decision (to send Ramses to Rome) can live with themselves and sleep at night.”
Paul Ramses is being held in a facility with other asylum seekers near Rome while Italian officials deal with his case. He is said to have little personal faith in the Italian system and worries he may have seen his son for the last time. Icelandic authorities are now trying to help keep him in Europe.
Last Friday, Iceland’s foreign minister, Ingibjorg Solrun Gisladottir, is reported to have instructed Iceland’s ambassador to Rome to personally oversee the case and assist Mr. Ramses as much as possible.
Why is iceland wasting the tax payers money trying to help a criminal??Paul Ramses was never an MP in Kenya and he is facing no prosecution at ALL!! Paul Oduor is a disgusting conman.1st he was never running for a councillor in nairobi.I find the reporter who wrote about Paul incopitent with his work.I want that reporter to read about kenyan law about the qualification to become a councilor and also ot get the names of the peole who were running for councilors,Paul has no qualifcation and he is nobody in kenya.
He is also lying to be campaigning for Raila Odinga(Kenya prime minister).I would like the reporter to call Raila and you will be suprised to know that he has never heard of paul in his life.If he was campaigning for him why cant he protect him because he has the power?

He talks of 500 bodies found in the forest,please how comes he is the only one who knows about them? we are so many kenyans here even from Paul´s tribe and we have families back home we would know about that.Try interview all kenyans,then get facts from kenyan government and immigration here and im sure you will not waste newspaper space for Paul.
Ask him to explain why he was sent back from London? he thought he would play with british government but british were not stupid,check with the british government.
I have a messange for icelanders who are wasting their time to protest for criminal.I dont think anyone of you know anything about kenya,what happened and the situation now apart from what Paul is telling you.Ask yourselve why there are no kenyans protesting including his relatives.Its because every kenyan who live here knows the crook he is.I think you have better things to do with your time than protesting for criminal.
During international day,intercultural centre usually give money to country representatives but paul took money all by himself,he is the reason why kenya never have a booth anymore.
And about his wife,i dont understand why she is still here.she is here illegaly.I dont understand why sweedish government gave permit to person who dont deserve it.She should be sent back to Sweden immediately and let the swedish government to deal with her,after all she will still be in europe.Immigration here in iceland were more than nice to allow the to stay here until the baby was born litle did they know that, that was paul & his wife plan all along to use the baby so the government & the public will pity him.

Finaly i have a messange for newspaper and tv station,we are very tired of listening and reading about Paul´s lies everyday.Before you people write or talk about Pauls again,please try to get the facts otherwise majority feel you dont qualify for your work.I believe you can get better news for peole and if you dont have please write about weather!!!!
Good morning Iceland! Who is svanhvit and who is nimo! Where are these information coming from and where can they bo found? Any? Or are these people just cooking this up? That’s very important to know. Are we being fooled, and if by whom? By Paul Ramses or svanhvit and nimo? Maybe svanhvit and nimo can inform us so we can check it out?

I have done a research and found out the following:
-Paul Ramses does not know anyone named Svanhvít (an Icelandic name but not a kenyan one). His wife has no recall of any Nimo either.
-Pata is his nickname.
-I have seen adverticements, cuts from newspapers and a dvd, that proof that Paul Odour Ramses was heading for “Councillor – Mabatini Ward” as put on a leaflet picturing Raila Odinga and Paul Ramses.
-No signs are found that he has ever been deported form London or any other place.

Eva,it seems that u did your online but no in kenya,he doesnt have to know nimo or svanhvit to make his claims true.Did u contact AHUS to prove that they didnt give him any money?The 500 people if at all they were killed in kenya by the police then he should swear an affidavit to prove his claims.Kenya almost came into civil war after the elections many people lost their lives and properties even their loved ones,but thanks to raila odinga who is now the premier peace has returned.Eva my dear pauls pictures with raila are called photoshops in computer i think you need to re-educated for misusing the name of research.
Did u contact the british home office if at all Paul Ramses has never been their guest,for your information Paul claims to have a degree in tourism and hotel management there is no such course in any kenyan university only in colleges and they are diploma courses.

We know how life is hard in Africa and including kenya thats why some do try to swim from morocco to spain just to reach europe the land of opportuinity and your Paul Ramses is swimming on Kenyans misfortune for his own personal gain.

When deleing whit an Africa how is trying to get to Europe then there are no binderies or rules or morals or justice they don’t play fear. @Eva Hauksdottir. I think you are too ignorant and have no informed opinion to talk about anything about Kenya. The so called death list was the mungiki slaughter whereby it was claimed that the police killed members of the proscribed sect without any regards to human rights.
Paul Ramses aka Oduor is a luo and therefore not a mungiki member, so why would he be on the deathlist? You people you are being fooled by a conman without even basic education and it is funny that you have fallen for it.
My advice is “Deport Paul Ramses to Kenya. Nothing will happen to him. He is a nobody in Kenya and noone will even notice his entry in Kenya except members of his immediate family”. Stop believing every lie being peddled by losers like Paul Ramses. These are the folks who make Africa look bad!

well i count you among the folks who know africa from the tv, news paper and perhaps a view stories. this has implemented in you a sight of “we have to help”. what “is in london” said is in many case how it goes. you should spend some time living in countries such as kenya. and i meant living not going their as a tourist. try to make your way through governemantal offices to get your paperwork together. try to buy a plot, try to open a business … apply for needed licenses as well as others and you will meet a lot of Paul Ramses aka Odour in your way.
