Fake operations cost as much as real ones

open heart surgeryA surgeon at a private clinic in Gothenburg, Sweden, is under investigation for possibly charging patients for surgery that never took place, according to reports in The Metro.

The surgeon apparently charged patients for bogus varicose vein removal and foreskin surgery among others. He is also accused of charging other patients for more complicated surgery than their conditions warranted.

The original complaint from the National Board of Health and Welfare states that the surgeon overcharged his customers by 5.7 million kronor (USD 943,000). The complaint moved on to the Medical Responsibility Board in Vastra Gotaland, which in turn reported him to the National Bureau of Economic Crimes, and to the prosecutor.

The scam is thought to have taken place over a five year period, the newspaper states.

  1. I’ve heard so much about this issue. There are several cases wherein patients had injections and surgical procedures by lay people who are not licensed MD’s. Police and the Government should make necessary movements about this case.
