Danish royals laugh at Icelandic schoolboy

fredensborg_castleThe Danish Royal couple, Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik, were in Iceland last week touring the country when they were asked a cheeky question by a schoolboy. According to reports in the Sydney Morning Herald, the couple were amused rather than shocked by the question and left the room laughing.

The Prince and Princess were being escorted through Stykkisholmur elementary school when a young student asked the Crown Prince if he had “gay tendencies.”

Rather than shock the couple, the question made the entire entourage erupt in laughter. Although the teachers may have blushed, the couple were still giggling when they left the classroom.

The Crown Prince had somewhat of a reputation for loving glamorous women before settling down with the Crown Princess. He once dated Katia Storkholm Nielsen, a lingerie model, as well as Maria Montell, a pop singer. Also among his high-profile pre-wedding romances was Bettina Oedum, a fashion designer.

The Crown Prince and Princess have two children. Their youngest, Isabella, is just 13 months old and Christian is two years old.

The Crown Princess was born Mary Elizabeth Donaldson in Hobart, Tasmania. She earned a degree at the University of Tasmania and worked in advertising in Melbourne for several years. Mary met Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark during the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. The two were officially engaged in October 2003 and were married in May 2004, in the Copenhagen Cathedral.
