Actavis Group, an international pharmaceuticals company offering generic drugs, has had a busy quarter. According to reports published by Fox Business, the Iceland-based company recently had one of its drugs approved by the US Food & Drug Administration.
Actavis received two separate approvals from the regulatory body to market Bupropion Hydrochloride extended-release tablets. The company plans to start distribution of the product immediately. The drugs are intended for the treatment of a serious depressive disorder and are the generic version of a drug currently marketed as Wellbutrin.
Wellbutrin, under all of its various brand and generic names generated $498 million in sales in the United States in 2007 according to IMS Health.
Bupropion Hydrochloride extended-release tablets can also be used in order to assist patients stop smoking. For this purpose, the drug is currently produced under the brand name of Zyban. Annual sales of the drug in both generic and branded formats for this purpose were $12 nillion in 2007.
In Bulgaria, Actavis recently announced the launch of 29 new products in the first quarter of the year. During the rest of 2008, the company says it will release a total of 43 new products onto the market including cardiovascular drugs Fosinopril HCT and Lisinopril HCT, among others.
In Romania, the company launched a line of 17 products dedicated to curing dry skin. The products are available for the face, body, hair and scalp.
