Reykjavík finds itself at the top of the list of cities to visit, recently published by Roughguides, the popular guide book publisher. The list, posted on the Roughguides website, features ten destinations for 2016, including Mexico City in second place, and Seoul, South Korea in third.
The capital of Iceland can claim its top spot on this list, according to the guide company, thanks to the happening arts scene, the hip nightlife, and the abundance of natural wonders not far from the city center. Roughguides enumerates the many attractions Reykjavík boasts from the city’s beauty to the fun activities visitors can enjoy: “Amid the colourful scattering of toy-like, painted houses you can gorge on the freshest fish, head out on a famously messy rúntur (round tour) – the Reykjavík residents’ Friday night boozy blowout – or let loose in booming nightclubs, where almost anything goes.”
In addition to featuring these aspects, the guide also notes a local favorite—the hot pools—seeming to cover most of the things that make Reykjavík unique and special. The site has a video called “Iceland Aurora” showing visuals of the Northern Lights over the city, set to music by Pétur Jónsson.
