Icelanders Nominated for Grammys 2016

The nominations for the Grammy Awards 2016 have come in and Iceland is well represented. Björk, composer Jóhann Jóhannson, and the band Of Monsters and Men have all been nominated.

Björk has been nominated for her most recent album, Vulnicura, in the category of Best Alternative Music Album. This is the 14th time she has been nominated at the Grammy’s, although she has never won. Five albums stand to win Best Alternative Music Album and the four artists alongside Björk are Tame Impala, Wilco, My Morning Jacket, and Alabama Shakes—all American, except for Tame Impala, who are from Australia.

Björk recently released a video for a song on her album entitled “Mouth Mantra,” which is shot from inside the singer’s mouth with a 360 degree-view camera. The video was made in collaboration with director Jesse Kanda.

Jóhann Jóhannson’s nomination is for the score of the film The Theory of Everything, which came out last year and for which the composer won a Golden Globe. He was also nominated for an Oscar and BAFTA for the same score. In the upcoming Grammy’s, Jóhann will stand to win the award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media.

Of Monsters and Men are nominated for the Special Limited Edition Package of their 2015 album Beneath the Skin.
