Laugavegur trail

Iceland’s Laugavegur trail among world’s best hiking

As one of National Geographic’s 20 best hiking trails in the world, the Laugavegur trek offers stunning views of caramelized mountains, obsidian lands, lava fields, and magnificent glaciers. Top hiking operator TREK offers one of Iceland’s best summer tour packages with a 6 day hike through the visceral landscape.

On the Laugavegur Trekking and Fimmvörðuháls 6 day tour, experienced guides lead explorers south through the Highlands, beginning in the geothermal wonderland of Landmannalaugar, and ending in the wooded valley of Thorsmörk valley.

Along the way, trekkers explore the trail most recently reshaped by the 2010 volcanic eruption of Eyjafallajökull, the new twin craters Magni and Móði, steaming hot springs, still-warm lava, and the surrounding glaciers. Nights are spent in the mountain huts along the trail and meals are provided throughout the trip.

The total hiking distance of the moderate level trek is about 77 kilometers and trips take place between June 15 and September 19.

While keeping explorers safe during the trip, the experienced guides of TREK Iceland will teach hikers about the geological history of the land, and ensure that all of the marvelous sights are seen along the way.

As a leader in Icelandic trekking tours, TREK Iceland offers year-round hiking tours throughout the country, with a team of experienced guides, for all skill levels. Visit www.trek.is to find out more about the Laugavegur Trekking and Fimmvörðuháls 6 day tour and a variety of other tour packages.
