ABBA bass player Rutger Gunnarsson passes away

Rutger Gunnarsson, who made his name as the bass player for Swedish pop group ABBA, has died at the age of 69.

Universal records, which announced his death, said that he passed away at his Stockholm home, but did not disclose the date or cause of his death.

The record label said in a statement that Gunnarsson was known across Sweden and beyond for his close and long collaboration with Benny Andersson, Bjorn Ulvaeus and ABBA, after having worked alongside them on all their singles, albums, tours, musicals and films. It added that bass fans were particularly impressed by his contribution to tracks such as Money Money Money, Knowing Me, Knowing You and Dancing Queen.

ABBA was one of the world’s most renowned and loved bands during the 1970s and 1980s. However, the group’s four members, Agnetha Faltskog, 65, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, 69, Anderson, 68, and Ulvaeus, 70, have not appeared on stage together since 1986.
