Iceland Geothermal Conference announces new speakers for 2013 eventThe upcoming Iceland Geothermal Conference, IGC 2013, has recently announced a range of new speakers, including Thomas DeLeo, Sithe Global; Jay Nathwani, U.S. Department of Energy; Dr. Silas Masinde Simiyu, GDC; and a keynote from Professor Jefferson W. Tester, Cornell University.

Thomas DeLeo is the Chief Operating Officer of Sithe Global, with over 25 years’ experience combined in the fields of power development and generation. He has overseen the development and financial closing of the Bujagali project, a 250 MW project in Jinja, Uganda.

Dr. Silas Masinde Simiyu is the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of the Geothermal Development Company (GDC) in Kenya. He has more than 20 years’ experience in the development of geothermal resources having worked with the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) and Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen).

Other confirmed speakers set to share their expert knowledge include Prof. Roland N. Horne, an influential figure within the field of both geothermal and petroleum energy research; Dr. Mike Allen, the executive director of the Geothermal New Zealand initiative; and Sri Mulyani Indrawati, the Managing Director of the World Bank.

The event will comprise of 54 lectures spread out over four days, as well as field trips to selected geothermal areas close to Reykjavik. The three-main phases of the geothermal value chain will be covered, including the scientific elements of Geothermal-drilling; the exploration phase, and the utilisation phase with reference to the resources in Iceland.

Topics set to be discussed at the Iceland Geothermal Conference 2013 will include: identifying the possibilities of geothermal; resource management; finance, risk and insurance management in geothermal projects; role of governments and international funds; rules and regulations, case histories and sustainable resource management, and environmental issues related to geothermal energy.

Furthermore, on day 3, a geothermal brokerage event will take place, giving participants the opportunity to meet and exchange information between possible technological/business partners. Furthermore, a brand awareness exhibition will be running during the conference days.

IGC 2013 will be taking place at the Harpa Conference Centre in Reykjavik, Iceland, between 5th and 8th March 2013.
