Cleaner injured after driving ‘stolen’ train into Stockholm building

Sweden flagA woman suffered serious injuries on 15 January after she crashed a commuter train into a residential building in Stockholm. Reports said that the unidentified female had boarded the parked Arriva train from a depot outside the Swedish capital and drove it nearly a mile before derailing and smashing into an apartment building.

Police have not yet released the name of the woman, although she is reported to be a cleaner, born in 1990. She was taken to a local hospital following the incident and was initially facing charges of endangering the public, according to Stockholm police spokesman Lars Bystrom.

However, Investigators have since said that there is no evidence to suggest that the train was taken intentionally. A local trade union is also threatening to sue Arriva over early reports that the cleaner was a train thief.

Seko union spokesperson Johnny Nadérus told the media, “They have obviously defamed her,” The Local.se reports.

No other injuries were reported in the incident, despite police officials revealing that a number of families were inside the three-story apartment building at the time of the collision.
