A Danish expatriate living in Dubai is facing charges of groping a waitress at a beach club. The 44-year-old man was reportedly heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident, and had been asked to leave the club several times after sitting at a table without ordering drinks. After being confronted by club security, the man allegedly jumped fully clothed into a swimming pool and continued his protests.
A 29-year-old waitress from Macedonia then says she tried to reason with the Dane and his friends. She told reporters, “I told them that they could not have a table without ordering drinks. While I was discussing the issue with them, the suspect, came very close to me. I tried to stay away from him … but he came very close and caressed my bum,” Gulf News reports.
The waitress said that the man then shouted profane slurs at her before she screamed, prompting security to forcibly remove the group from the club.
The Dane is now facing charges of sexual molestation, as well the use of abusive language and excessive alcohol consumption. He has admitted to having consumed alcohol but denies the other accusations, despite the club having presented clear CCTV evidence to the court.
He is scheduled to appear in court again on 5 December and could face substantial time in jail. A similar Dubai groping case earlier in the year resulted in a six-month jail sentence for the defendant.
