Icelandic cookery book named among best in the world

A recipe book from Iceland has been named as one of the best in the world at the Gourmand Awards this week.

The Big Book on Game (Stóra bókin um villibráð) was written by Úlfar Finnbjörnsson, master chef, and published by Salka in Iceland. It came out as one of the 14 finalists for the Cookery Book of the Year at  the Gourmand Awards, which were announced on Tuesday night.

The Gourmand Awards are the highest recognition in the world of food and wine books, Vísir.is reported.

The overall champion in the category was a book called Patagonia Cuisines, according to a press statement from the Salka publishing house in Reykjavík.

Books were submitted for the award from 162 countries around the world, and competition was therefore tough. The author and publisher are understandably thrilled with the result.

The book is illustrated with attractive photographs by Karl Petersson, as well as drawings by Jón Baldur Hlíðberg.
