Gydja Collection unveils face of new eau de parfume VJK Vatnajökull

The Icelandic fashion label, Gydja Collection, has unveiled the face of its recently released eau de parfume fragrance for men, VJK Vatnajökull. Þorvaldur Davíð Kristjánsson, the Icelandic actor and Julliard School graduate known as Thor, was announced as the face of VJK Vatnajökull by Sigrun Lilja Gudjonsdottir, the label’s lead designer and founder.

Sigrun Lilja commented, “Thor is the perfect face and representative for VJK Vatnajökull as he has a strong Icelandic look and style, as well as being a gifted indivdual. I personally have a lot of faith in him and his work.”

The release of VJK Vatnajökull follows the success of Gydja Collection’s debut perfume EFJ Eyjafjallajökull, a perfume for women which was released last year.

“Well, since the success of EFJ Eyjafjallajökull, I received a number of requests to develop a scent suitable for men; so I decided to delve into creating a fragrance for men using similar identifiable tones to EFJ, but with a sharp, masculine edge,” explained Sigrun Lilja.

In an interview with the Icelandic newspaper Fréttablaðið, Thor said, “I was really honoured when Sigrun Lilja asked me to be the face of the new Gydja Collection fragrance. I have a lot of faith in her and her company; she has designed many beautiful products for which she has received great praise in both Iceland and abroad.”

Sigrun Lilja added, “ We wanted a name synonymous with power and strength, and seeing as Vatnajökull is the largest glacier in Europe, we thought that the name fitted the concept perfectly as it encompasses all of those elements of masculinity. As with the EFJ perfume, which was made using glacial water from Eyjafjallajökull, we have used glacial water from Vatnajökull as part of the ingredients for VJK.”
