The first run of a brand new German translation of the Icelandic sagas has sold out at lightning speed. The translation of the sagas into German is a cornerstone of Iceland’s guest-of-honour status at the upcoming Frankfurt Book Fair, which begins in the middle of October.
The new printing of the historical stories, which are a fascinating mix of fact and fiction, sold out in just a few days. The printing of the sagas is also being touted as a celebration edition; as the publisher, S. Fischer, is 125 years old. S. Fischer is one of Germany’s most respected publishing companies, RUV reported.
The publisher stated that the release of the sagas was met with immediate enthusiasm and sold out faster than expected. All efforts are now being made to get a second run into bookshops across the German speaking countries as soon as possible.
