Besta Utihatidin 2011 (or ‘The Best Outdoor Festival 2011’ in English) begins this evening in South Iceland. As many as 10,000 guests are expected to camp out in the good weather and enjoy the extensive and varied live music on offer.
Three 40-foot shipping containers full of lights and other stage equipment were taken to the Gaddstadaflatir arena near Hella earlier this week — including the giant television screen which used to adorn the side of Reykjavik’s Kringlan shopping centre.
The events begin at 21.00 this evening and acts over the weekend include Skitamorall, Gus Gus, Quarashi, XXX Rottweiler, Agent Fresco, Vintage Caravan, I Svortum Fotum, SSSol and many more. Tickets are not yet completely sold out, organisers say — although over 8,000 were sold in advance.
One of the festival organisers, Haraldur Asi, told Visir.is that this is the biggest event he has been involved in — adding that preparations are going smoothly and that everything should be ready for the first guests this afternoon.
