Terrorist suspects to be kept in isolation in Norwegian jail

Two of the three suspected terrorists apprehended by police last Thursday have been jailed by an Oslo court. David Jakobsen, 31, from Uzbekistan, and Mikael Davud, 39, from Uighur , were arrested by Norwegian police last week as news of the long-running, covert sting operation was about to be leaked by the international media.

The Norway Security Police (PST) prosecutors originally asked for the men, who they had been watching for a year, to remain behind bars for eight weeks. Both will, however, be kept in complete isolation for the first 14 days, reports the Norway Post.

The third suspect, Shawan Bujak, 37, from Iraq, is due to appear before Norwegian courts later this week after being arrested in Germany. According to PST, the men are accused of planning at least one terrorist attack on Norwegian soil.

The police also told the media on Monday that one of the accused, Jakobsen, had been a PST informer for almost a year, but added that the charges against him refer to activities he was involved in before that time.

All three men had been living in the country for some time and are classed as Norwegian residents. Police believe the men were planning to explode powerful bombs in the country and had connections to al-Qaeda as well as foiled terrorist attacks in the UK and the USA.
