The popularity of Iceland’s erupting volcano among tourists continues and attention in the foreign media is only increasing.
At least four journalists from Britain’s biggest newspapers have written features on their ‘incredible journeys’ to Iceland’s Fimmvorduhals volcano.
The British journalists were invited for a one-day-and-one-night trip to Iceland by Fridrik Palsson, the owner of Hotel Ranga; a country hotel which is fortunately located for volcano trips.
According to RUV, Palsson had words with colleagues in the UK who managed to gather a group of enthusiastic journalists at very short notice. They came from The Guardian, The Sunday Telegraph, The Times and The Daily Mail.
The journalists were taken on a guided volcano tour both in a helicopter and on snowmobiles and also given dinner and hotel accommodation. DV uses the old Icelandic proverb “perceptive is the guest’s eye” to suggest that its readers check out the original articles straight from the very “perceptive” horses’ mouths. I would also be pretty excited to see that volcano. I wish I had gone too. That’s a premium attraction. It is normal that hotel manager is making a volcano tourism from that :) It won’t be strange if the prices were higher than normal even.
That would be very convenient, having Disney names is like having a scientific name.
I would like to have an adventure like that, being abke to see erupting volcano at a close distance. t would be very thrilling, like a scene in the movie “Journey to the Center of the Earth”
Now if only we had names that foreigners could pronounce they might remember to put a name on what they saw. From now on each of Icelands’ Volcanos to reach the Western Media should be given a name from one of Walt Disney’s cartoons. This on could be called Sneezy… one of the 7 Dwarfs. A really big one (like the 7.2 one in Baja California) could be called Grumpy. Big earthquakes are in this year. With all the activity going on underneath us, perhaps Iceland is sitting on the pressure valve of the next tectonic fountain… in which we all will be touristing ourselves to different parts of the globe.
So far the best information campaign. Bravo. Others only heard about Iceland because of the ICESAVE, a common misinformation, others gathered information from the papers, TV, radio and Internet but this is different.
“I came, saw, overcome and conquered it with positive result.”
