La PrimaveraThe Christmas tree in Austuvollur square is standing proud, the warm glow of the Christmas lights brighten up the winter streets, Reykjavik is certainly in the Christmas spirit. In celebration, most of the restaurants in Iceland’s capital city offer a Christmas menu and every year they all offer astonishingly beautiful Icelandic cuisine, traditional and non-traditional.

La Primavera is a fine example of the non-traditional, combining influences of North Italian cooking with local, fresh Icelandic produce. This laid back, yet smart Italian restaurant’s all year round menu is simple always provides the freshest ingredients, and not to mention the best possible fish – or as the world renowned chef and restaurant owner Jamie Oliver once described it, “The most amazing, freshest fish I’ve ever had in my life. It was all so perfectly cooked too. Beautiful.”

The restaurant’s Christmas menu also offers a range of fresh homemade dishes from reindeer to ravioli, salmon to spaghetti and langoustine to lamb all served with the freshest Icelandic vegetables available. In true festive spirit the restaurant is also offering some traditional Christmas goodies with an Italian twist, like the succulent breast of turkey with a fruit filling and sage sauce or the saddle of lamb with peaches, chesnuts in cep sauce and celebrate Christmas in style. A vast array of delicious desserts such as rhubarb with skyr and mascarpone or chocolate mousse with mango caviar are also on offer.

La Primavera’s festive menu, atmosphere and exclusive Italian wine list has indeed proven the restaurant to be a classic in downtown Reykjavik, still understated, still simple and above all still very, very yummy!
