Toddlers to seniors to run in Glitnir Oslo Marathon

Glitnir Oslo MarathonRegistrations have been pouring in and the number of participants is getting close to 3500. This is a 50 % increase from the same time last year and if this trend continues, there will be more than 7000 participants in this year’s marathon.

The race is divided into four runs: the full marathon course, half-marathon and 10 and 3 kilometre runs.

The half marathon is proving most popular at the moment, with 57% of the registrations. The organisers gladly note that 38% of those that have registered so far are women, a great increase from 32% in 2007 and 22% in 2006. The oldest registered participant up to now is 81 years old and the youngest is no more than 1 year old.

The marathon will start on Sunday, 28th September at 10.30am while the half-marathon at 1.30pm. The start time for the 10km run is 10.00am, and the 3km run will start at 3.30pm. Participants will be divided according to their expected finishing times to make the start go as smoothly as possible

Prior to the Glitnir Oslo Marathon on Sunday, 28th September, Glitnir Oslo Mini-marathon at Bislett Stadium is being organised for children from 0-12 years old. 60 participants have registered for this run until now. The aim, however, is to have 1000 children running, walking and hopping round the course.

Corbana, a distributor of bananas from Costa Rica, will run the Corbana Fun Event, and the main sponsor Glitnir and other cooperation partners will provide lots of fun and entertainment around the course.

The children‘s run is approximately 500 metres long, with the finishing line at the marathon entrance to Bislett Stadium. Participants will be divided into groups according to age, with the eldest children starting first. All participants will receive a t-shirt and a medal for taking part.

Half of all entry fees received for the Glitnir Oslo Mini-marathon go directly to the charity Right To Play. The money will go to the organisation’s many projects, details of which can be seen at www.righttoplay.no.
