Sweden’s Sörenstam prepares for HSBC golf tournament

After an injury which put her out of the game for two months last year, Sweden’s Annika Sörenstam said she was determined to win back her first place ranking at the HSBC Women’s Golf Champions next month, reports Inquirer.net.

Sörenstam, 37, has been awarded a title every year since she began competing in golf in 1994. Disc problems led her to miss part of the season last year, marking her first missed title.

“My goal is to get back to the top,” Sorenstam said. “That’s my goal, my long-term goal.”

Sörenstam will begin the 2008 season early, starting with the two opening events in Hawaii.

“When I get to Singapore, I’ll have two tournaments under my belt already,” Sörenstam commented. “So I think that shows the commitment and that I’m going to go hard this year.”

Sörenstam said she is focused on her goal and knows it will not be easy. “It’s a lot of hard work, don’t get me wrong, but I know what I want to do,” she said. “Is it going to be fluid? Is it going to be straight? No! It’s going to be bumpy, but I’m going to get there.”

The HSBC Women’s Champions will take place at the Tanah Merah Country Club in Singapore from February 28 to March 2.
