Bjork’s delivers ‘epic’ performance in Scotland

Bjork played the closing set of Scotland’s first Connect Festival which ended on September 2nd. Her headline performance included old classics as well as pieces from her most recently released album, ‘Volta’.

The final performance of her set was similar to her show in Glastonbury earlier in the year. A 10-piece band with Icelandic musicians came out on stage to accompany her for the final song ‘Declare Independence’. Her performance has been described as “stunning,” “thrilling” and “epic”.

Before beginning the final song, Bjork shouted, “This is a song you should all know well, come on people, declare independence.”

The Connect Festival was held over several days at Scotland’s Inveraray Castle. The sun only came out on the third day of the shows with rain pouring down on concert goers at the outdoor event for the first two days.

Before Bjork’s closing headline show, Sri Lankan Tamil artist, M.I.A. put on a shortened performance. While playing ‘Galang,’ the lead singer invited the crowd to join the band on stage. When the crowd surged across the barriers in large numbers, swamping the stage, the group had to abandon the show and retreat.

Other bands who played at the Scottish festival included Seasick Steve, LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip and Patrick Wolf.
