Saving Iceland’s summer events

Environmental group Saving Iceland held a fund-raising concert at the Nasa nightclub in Reykjavik on 2nd July. The funds went towards increased environmental protection in the country and towards protests of large-scale industrial enterprises in Iceland.

Múm, Ólöf Arnalds, Sigtryggur Baldursson, Magga Stína, Rúnar Júl, Ellen Eythórs, Ms. Silla and Mongoose, Bloodgroup, Evil Madness and Retro Stefson all participated in the event, donating their talent for free in the service of environmental protection.

In addition to the concert, Saving Iceland has several other events organised for the summer. The organisation holds a protest camp every year. This year’s event is scheduled for July 6th at a secret location. Previous camps and protests have gotten international attention leading one organiser, Ólafur Páll Sigurdsson, to believe that this year’s attendance should be strong.

Saving Iceland is also organising a conference for the 7th and 8th of July. Participants in the conference include the Rights Action Group, Earthlife ZA and Dr. Eric Duchemin. The conference will be held at the Hotel Hlio.
